While majored in biology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington he was introduced to the film industry by his film professor Frank Capra, Jr. He graduated at the top of his class with an MFA in Motion Picture Production from the University of Miami. Career His graduate thesis film, The Shell (2005), won four of seven possible awards at the 2005 University of Miami Canes Film Festival: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Editor, and Best Music. In 2004, Jean-Paul's graduate first-year film, Triton (2004), won the Jury Award, Best Director Award, and Best Cinematography Award at the same event. The Best Director Award was shared with two other fellow classmates. He is the first University of Miami MFA film student to ever win the Best Director Award for both the thesis film and the first-year film. The Shell (2005) is a recipient of the 2005 Florida Choice Award selected by The Education Channel. Chreky has been a teaching assistant at production classes at the University of Miami and American University. He currently assists in the development of other productions, as a writer, director, assistant director, and script supervisor. He was the script supervisor for Swedish Auto, starring Lukas Haas and January Jones, (directed by Derek Sieg), as well as the feature film In Search Of directed by Zeke Zelker, and Apology starring Mira Furlan.
